Legislative update — veto session

A quick update with session starting today:

_Guns – Rep. Mike Zalewski’s mandatory minimums bill is posted today at 2 p.m. in the House Judiciary Committee in Room 413 of the Stratton Building. The bill is now Senate Bill 1342.

_Gambling – State Rep. Bob Rita is having a subject matter hearing on the gambling expansion issue at 1:30 p.m. (or immediately after session ends) tomorrow in Room 114 of the Capitol. This will be a hearing of the House Executive Committee and will be used to help determine what direction gambling discussions take.

_Retiree health care – The Legislature’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability meets at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow in Room 400 of the Capitol to discuss the latest with CMS on its transition to the new Medicare Advantage plan. Linda Brookhart of the State Universities Annuitants Association will be on hand with many others interested in the hearing. I’m glad to provide you some background or connect you with Linda there.

_Pensions – Nothing expected to develop in this first week of the session at this point, but again that can change quickly.
