The GOP field for governor does have its problems. No doubt. Bill Brady, Dan Rutherford, and Kirk Dillard all have their strong points and weak points; none is a guaranteed winner or a guarantee to be a great success in the office. But at least all three are real, true, longtime Republicans with a right to seek our nomination. But Bruce Rauner is an exception. A multimillionaire who can afford to outspend all three real Republicans put together, he has no business running for office in a Republican primary. For any office, let alone the governor’s mansion… Here’s a piece by Doug Ibendahl, outlining just SOME of Rauner’s many, many donations to national Democrats and Democrat party committees… and it doesn’t even get into the question of how much he’s donated to local Democrats and Democrat-leaning PACs over the years. One question: if you had lots of money. LOTS and lots of money. Even if money meant nothing to you anymore… would you EVER donate $60,000 to the Democrat National Committee if you weren’t a Democrat??? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/doug-ibendahl/rauner-not-honest-about-contributions_b_3964199.html

Rauner Not Honest About Contributions to Democrats – The Huffington Post

Bruce Rauner has been trying to explain away the tens of thousands of dollars that he’s donated to Democrats over the years… to Forrest Claypool, Ed Rendell, Rahm Emanuel, Richie Daley, and the Illinois state Democrat party, and the national Democrat party… Bruce Rauner, alleged Republican, candidate for the Illinois governor’s mansion in 2014, tries to convince us that his multitude of donations to Democrats shouldn’t be held against him. He says it’s not a lot of money to him; he’s rich, and he’s just expected to donate in the thousands… and it’s pay-to-play in Illinois, everyone knows that… But see, here’s the thing: Take, for example, the $60,000 that the FEC says Bruce Rauner has donated to the Democrat National Committee: The issue isn’t how much money Rauner has to spare; it’s how much damage that the $60,000 can do in the hands of the DNC! He gave them $60,000, knowing that they would use it to buy radio or TV commercials or print mailings, to trash good Republicans. It’s not unforgivable that he wastes his own money – what’s unforgiveable is that he gave it to evil people to fund evil deeds. I might be able to spare fifty bucks. I have a right to spend it as I choose, sure… on food or neckties or books or a new shirt.. But what if I gave the $50 to a thirsty alcoholic school bus driver waiting outside the Field Museum, so that he could spend the day on whiskey, drinking in the bus before driving his 44 students home at the end of the field trip? Sure I can afford to give him the $50; the issue is that I have a responsibility to try to ensure that my money isn’t spent to do damage. When you give $60,000 to the Democratic National Party, you KNOW how it’s going to be spent: on radio and TV commercials aimed at defeating Republicans. That’s what they’re for. You can’t pretend that you don’t bear responsibility for your $60,000 donation when you know exactly what it’s going to be used for, and you donate it anyway! John F.
