Howdy. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend. I wanted to give you a quick update on the petition I posted a few weeks back. As you may remember, I was circulating a petition calling on the Illinois legislators to divest the state of any investments where there is also gun industry money involved. Over 100 people signed the petition, which has been delivered in Springfield. Currently, those who signed the petition are making phone calls to Dan Rutherford, the IL State Treasurer. (please feel free to call him if you would like to help – 217.785.6998 or 312.814.1700) He is responsible for overseeing the State’s investments. The goal of the phone calls is to put enough pressure on Rutherford to come out publicly in favor of divestiture. At the same time, a copy of the petition (with signatures) being sent to many news organizations throughout Illinois. We want to build the pressure until Rutherford finally goes public with his support of divestiture.. Our fight to take the country back from the NRA’s money will not be won by any one thing. This is a process that will take some time. Divestiture is just one strategy that will hopefully move us closer to our goal. Don’t ever forget that organized people can overcome organized money. At a minimum, we owe this to our kids and the generations that will follow.
